I have told you how much I love Vision Statements.
They are like goals but more of a story.
It is a story from your future.

Writing one starts with thinking about how you will be living in the future when you have become the person you are currently striving to become.

I have written a few vision statements for my clients and for myself. I like to go five years into the future. I write them for all aspects of my life-my business vision, my life vision, my partner vision. All have different elements.

In one of my client’s vision statements was completely different than the life she was living at the time.

She was unhappily married and she was ready for a change. We talked about what she wanted in her life with her relationship, with her career and the relationship she wanted with her child. It has been 4 years so we are at point that the vision statement we wrote should be close to how her life looks now. And it is.

Her marriage has ended. It was a difficult experience but their relationship is on the mend. They are co-parenting their teenage son in a beautiful way. She has been able to accept her ex having a new partner. And her career is taking off. When we wrote the vision statement she read it regularly to really imagine herself in the future. And now she is there.

Are you ready to write one?

Writing one starts with thinking about how you will be living in the future when you have become the person you are currently striving to become.

Take a moment to sit down and take yourself to your future. Look at five years from now.

Questions to consider:

  • How do your days look?
  • What are you doing?
  • What have you accomplished the past five years?
  • How are you living your life?
  • What are you doing now that you have reached the dream?
  • How are you feeling?

Keep all of these questions in mind and write a story.

Mine starts with me on a hike mid-week. How does your start?

Reading your vision on a regular basis helps you believe.
And once you believe the vision you can get there.

The reason it works is because it is a story. It has feelings and accomplishments. It is what you imagine for your future. You can actually see yourself in the story, living that life.

You can rewrite these as often as you want. Reading them regularly is an important part of the exercise so don’t forget to do that too.

Once you believe your story you can make it happen.
