With the information we have gathered during the awareness stage, you are now ready for a brainstorming session. I love brainstorming. There is no judgement, it is a fun experience to expand your life into dreams that you may never have thought could happen.
By the end of the session, you will have narrowed your dreams to three choices. Then it is all about exploring those choices.
Next is research and information interviews. These are not job interviews these are conversations with people doing the things that sound interesting to you.
In the interview you will be prepared with questions. Questions about what the job is like day to day, the skills needed for the position and how they got to the position they have.
This work in invaluable. You know the things that are important to you. Now it is time to find out if those things will be fulfilled with the career choices you are exploring.
I loved film production. When I got into it, I was thrilled. I worked on movies, TV shows and commercials. I had a lot of fun. But I didn’t realize the lifestyle I was choosing. If I had spoken with people in the field, I would have had a better idea of how I was setting up my life. I would have known what I was agreeing to. And then I could make an informed decision about my career choice.
I have no regrets in my choice of film production. I learned so much. As I grew into a different person with different needs, I was ready for a change.
Our choices change as we grow and change in life.
I never had a plan for my life. I just went with the flow. It wasn’t until I sat down and thought about what I wanted in life that I aligned my work and life.
