Our habits are what make up our lives.
Some habits move us toward our goals, others keep us stuck and not moving forward.
We all have habits in each category.
Habits can help us achieve our goals.
For example, one of my goals this year, is to read more books that help in my business. I have found in the past that if I make a habit of reading for business for 30 minutes a day, I finish more books. I was good most of last year. The fall was a hard time for me, and I got away from the daily habit.
It is a priority for me to make it a daily habit again.
The only way to start anything is to schedule it.
I find reading is a great way to end my work day. It is on my list at this point and will become a habit quickly.
I have a morning routine and an end of work routine. When I stick to them, I get more done. These routines become habits in about a month. Once it is a habit, I don’t really have to think about them, I just do them regularly. Then I am ready to start the next habit.
Don’t start too many habits at once. Set yourself up for success by only starting one or two at a time.
How do you determine the habits you need?
It all starts with awareness.
Make a list of all your current habits. Be honest this is only for you.
Now check the list.
Which habits are helping you in your life?
And which habits need to go?
Do this in conjunction with your goals.
I like to see it on paper. Goal at the top and habits that further each goal under them. If you get stuck ask yourself questions. What habits would help you further the goals in your work? in your life? What habit sounds like fun?
Habits are how we live. We get to decide which ones we want.
